Paulina Zielinska: One Health

“One Health Approach to Preventing Pandemics and Serving Local Communities”

Paulina Zielinska, DVM, MPVM, MPH is a leadership fellow at the One Health Institute in the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine where she focuses on global health interactions between humans, domestic and wild animals, and the environment that connects them. Dr. Zielinska received her veterinary degree from Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland and began her work in global health during her MPVM program at UC Davis, coordinating an HIV/AIDS prevention project in collaboration with the CDC in Hyderabad, India. She then went on to complete her master of public health degree at Harvard University where she focused on infectious disease prevention. Currently, Dr. Zielinska works for the novel viral emergence early warning project PREDICT that has been developed with the US Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Emerging Pandemic Threats Program, where she is packaging results to share project’s achievements in 20 partnering countries. Dr. Zielinska also acts as a mentor for student-led One Health projects in Nicaragua and Knights Landing, CA at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Zielinska both designed and built the ” i-One Health” website, a global One Health networking site connecting faculty and students throughout the UC system and with other global partners worldwide. She is a board member of the non-profit organization, Sahaya International, which supports children in India and globally.

Mike Webb: Davis Gateway Nishi Project

Mike Webb will speak about the Davis Gateway Nishi Project on Sept. 17. He started his planning career in Davis in 1997 while an undergraduate at UC Davis.  Over the years Mike has had increasingly responsible roles in the areas of planning and economic development leading to his current position as Director of Community Development and Sustainability. Prior to being appointed Director, he spent a year as Director of Development Services for the City of Placerville. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from UC Davis in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Southern California. He and his wife Katie enjoy cycling and supporting their rapidly growing kids in school, myriad activities, and sports.
